Only 1000 sms/day!?

After studies done by the government of Korea showed that in May last year Koreans received an average 0.62 spam messages a day on their cell phones and 0.74 in November 2005 and 0.99 this May, Korea decide to stop this. It might not sound like a lot of spam, but Korea have tons of cell phones and when was the last time you receive a spam from your phone?

The Ministry of Information and Communication decide to start to limit the amount of text messages. After the 1,000th message of the day is transmitted, the next one will be automatically blocked by the envisioned system.

However, normal citizens will not be affected by the policy because it is practically impossible for them to send 1,000 messages a day on a cell phone. Just mobile spammers may surpass the mark as they use devices specifically designed for sending out spam. So it is a good thing that they are only stopping the automated ones.

A spammer can send an average of 10,200 messages a day. That means they shot messages once every 4.23 seconds. In an extreme case, a user sent about 70,000 messages a day. So this must be stop. There will be a tally of who sends out the spam messages and fine such people at a later date. The government has decided to take the spam problem very seriously.
